Watch Out Cake Boss!

\
What fun! I went to my first cake decorating class tonight. Most of what we practiced tonight, I taught myself, but what we didn't practice, instead just shown blew my mind! The Wilton representative frosted a cake so perfectly it looked just like fondant! It was beautiful, and we are going to try our hand at it next week...but if you know me at all, you know that I have 0 patience when it comes to wanting to try something new, therefore I will be making a cake for the Hell of it tomorrow just to try the tips and tricks she told us about. I have decided to make this a fun venture by trying out a new recipe though...so I will blog about that tomorrow!
 Good night for now!!

It's Been Far Too Long

Hello friends...it's me...Amelia, ya know that girl that bakes and blogs....yes, yes, yes, I know, I know...since it's been forever you have found some other bakin and bloggin chick to pay attention to, but that is all about to change! I am back! Auditions for Masterchef are December 3rd, and I have a lot of work to do! I still need to get in the kitchen and become friends with things like chicken, pork, and oh I don't know, veal maybe? My point is I am pretty awesome at the baking thing, but when it comes to holding any type of raw meat I crumble to my knees and break out into hives the size of golf balls. It creeps me out! But, once I pop a xanax or have a glass of the oh so delectable vino, I am a decent home cook and so I am going to apply for MC. So that's a brief update on that!
Now as for other news...I HAD THE BABY!!! Woot Woot!! On September 15th, Grey Patrick was born. I was all gung ho to have him au naturale, but that didn't work out so well. I was doing good until hour 7 hit, and then shit hit the fan and I caved and begged for the epidural. Ok, so I didn't beg in fact I just said I wanted it, and next thing I knew the guy with the needle was there. I kinda wish the nurse had tried to help me stick to my plan but she did not, and my husband was being a dear trying to give it the ol' "you said you wanted to do this, and no, you're not getting an epi" etc in that firm football coach voice, but it wasn't working for me. But regardless of how, our healthy little guy arrived and has been such a joy in our lives...well a joy to me, the hubs is still adjusting to being up all night! Alright enough of this, time to blog about deliciousness!!

Baking: It's Good for the Soul

So, call it the "I'm tired of being pregnant" blues or whatever you want, but I have been in a funk the last few days and I just can't seem to get out of it. I voiced my depressed complaints to the hubs and he so brilliantly said, "so bake something." Genius! So, I decided to make a Lemon Merengue Pie tonight, and boy did it help lift my spirits. After having made over 100 cupcakes, a small tiered cake, and a kick ass transformers cake in 2.5 days, I assumed my baking days were over. In fact, I still had dishes to wash from that experience up until this afternoon! But I was wrong, baking is in me, it's what I do, and being on this high from baking just emphasizes even more my true calling in this world is to be a baker. Now the question is, "how do I get from baking in my kitchen to a full fledged business?" And with baby boy due any day now, I'd say it's going to have to be put on the back burner for awhile. That's ok though. I can continue to hone my skills while I research to how to's of becoming a bakery owner. So for now, here's a pic of my pie. Recipe to follow.
